This year marks the 35th anniversary of one of sneaker culture’s most iconic shoes, the Nike Air Force One (AF1). And to celebrate its journey, Nike teamed up with us to pay homage to Baltimore; the city that saved the shoe so many years ago. Tents, barricades, stages, and food trucks lined the alley way beside the old Cinderella Shoe store in the Park Heights neighborhood of Baltimore as excitement grew for the big revealing of the cities newest mural. City officials and neighborhood leaders took turns sharing sentiments and residents enjoyed free music, food, and giveaways. Once the fanfare settled, the cover was removed, premiering the mural and the commemorative plaque to the neighborhood. You can also find in DTLR’s Mondawmin location a similar plaque honoring our part in the revitalization of the AF 1 back then and our contributions to the brand today.
