This marks the fourth annual Give a Sole, Save a Soul back to school donation event, and the first year DTLR is partnering with the organization to help provide twice as many students with shoes this year. Both organizations will be contributing 1,000 shoes to the effort, which aims to send students back to school feeling confident and prepared.
“At DTLR, community is at the heart of our DNA. By elevating this event, we are able to help send 2,000 students back to school with shoes on their feet and their heads held high with confidence,” commented DTLR Community Outreach Director Tremayne Lipscomb, Sr. “We are proud to partner with organizations like Give a Sole, Save a Soul, which allows us to enhance the existing efforts of a local nonprofit to help amplify the positive impact they have on our local communities.”
During the event, the organizations will also be providing 40 free hair cuts. In order to receive shoes, students under the age of 14 must be accompanied by adults. Students ages 14-17 must show a student ID in order to receive shoes. Honor roll students will be able to receive two pairs of shoes. Shoes will be available while supplies last.
Give a Sole, Save a Soul is a nonprofit based in West Baltimore that was started in 2021 by Edward Johnson, Jr. to ensure those in need had a decent pair of shoes when going back to school. Through his organization, Johnson takes donated, gently used shoes and brings them back to life.
